Amazing book! I loved every story in this anthology. Well told by indigenous writers and drawn an wildly beautiful art styles. I appreciate that each story has information about laws and legislation that impacted the communities as well. Loved this book!

This graphic novel is a fascinating collection of stories focused on the broad history and experience of First Nations people in Canada. As someone who grew up in the United States, many of the events detailed in this book (and even some of the terms used) were brand new to me, but I found the learning process very enjoyable. Some of the stories ("Annie of Red River", "Like a Razor Slash", "Peggy") approach historical events in a fairly straightforward way, while others ("Rosie," "Red Clouds") take a much more impressionistic tone to delve into indigenous beliefs and mythology. The last piece, "kitaskinaw 2350", flips the entire enterprise on its head and pretty much creates a new genre of "Indigenous Futurism", which is bracing and innovative. Overall, I loved the writing in this book, although I felt the quality of the artwork was a little uneven. But nevertheless, this is an essential book for any comics fan who wants to learn more about this history that has been hidden for too long.

A graphic novel format was perfect for this short story collection. I found it to be a lot of information, considering it does recount 150 years of the history of Indigenous peoples in Canada, but it tells these stories in a way that is easily accessible. Nimkii, Peggy, and Red Clouds were definitely the standouts for me.

It wasn’t an easy read, but I learned some more about the Native American experience in Canada.

The authors different voices and cultures weave a moving and informative tapestry of own voices comics based on First Nations history. The introductions and timelines add context. Beautifully produced and illustrated. Highly recommended for ages 13+, great supplement for Canadian history curriculums.

Read for bookclub. Great for a HS library, also has a teacher's guide that would be helpful. Art was a little uneven, in a few places I wondered about the art style/color palette in relation to the story. Really liked how all 10 stories were arranged with chronological timeline and notes about Indigenous Canadian history and what was happening. The chapter opening notes were valuable.
