Not a fan, I get that it's a classic, but I don't see the appeal. I thought it was extremely boring and I didn't see the point.

Ok, ok.....ich werde mich hüten irgendetwas über die Qualität dieses Romans zu sagen.
Kaum ein Werk bzw ein Autor der jüngeren Literaturgeschichte erfreut sich nämlich einer so manisch-fanatischen Anhängerschaft wie "Hundert Jahre Einsamkeit" bzw Gabriel Garcia Márquez.
So sehr ich ihm diese Anhängerschaft gönne und so sehr ich seine "Chronik eines angekündigten Todes" genossen habe, muss ich doch gestehen.....mein Gott das hier war echt nicht das Gelbe vom Ei.
Die Handlung: Eine Aneinanderreihung von Beliebigkeiten.
Die Figuren: Gänzlich uninteressant und gleichwohl repetetiv rädondant. (Obwohl ich ihm positiv anrechne, dass er einen döblin'schen Hang zur unpsychologischen Charakterisierung hat)
Die Sprache: Überladen und gespickt mit Manierismen, Worthülsen und allerhand Obszönitäten.
Und ja, ich hab schon verstanden, dass das ganze Buch die verschiedenen "Phasen" der südamerikanischen Geschichte in zyklisch wiederkehrenden Mustern erzählt.
Und diese Elemente haben mir auch gefallen. Aber wenn das ganze verpackt ist in eine zu brachiale, gewollt überbordende Sprache und erratische Assoziationen, ergibt das halt an und für sich noch keinen guten Roman.

So… I listened to this on Audible. Weird as fuck. I only made it about halfway through, and I just can’t.

all the vividly surreal natural references... the saffron-colored moss spontaneously growing on clothing during the four years of rain, an atmosphere so wet fish would swim in through the door and out through the window, car mechanics followed by clouds of yellow butterflies. and one of the best endings i've read so far.
