Initial thoughts:

1. Background on Aspen's life = great!
2. Obsession and thinking that America belonged him = ugh, not so great.
3. Fast-paced and interesting, although the scenarios already have been shown in The Elite.
4. Easy and understandable writing.
5. I definitely lost every ounce of hope I have seen in this boy to become some better character.

2.5 stars, I never really liked Aspen as the love interest and this didn't help. It was so brief that it didn't give me more to work with...

Another side story from The Selection series, this time focusing on Aspen Leger.
It is great to finally understand the POV of Aspen and what he was thinking when he was trying to fight for America's love once more. It was nice to see his thought process and to see how he was already on the way to his own form of closure which was fantastic.

I don't care what happens or what anybody says, I'll always carry a torch for Aspen.

"[...] I've seen a lot of people let the bad around them make them hard or stubborn. In the end, they miss the chance to make their world better because they only see the worst in in."

Barely two stars. I was expecting Aspen and Lucy. That's what I would like to read about. How it happens? Instead I got Aspen being extremely annoying with his never ending obsession for America.

This novella, from Aspen's POV was a welcome addition to The Selection series. I thoroughly enjoyed getting his perspective, and there was a bit more information gathered regarding the rebel attacks and Illea's history.
