As Tybalt is one of my favorite characters within the October Daye Series, I loved this story!

5 stars. This is the story of Rand, theater cat and Prince of Cats in Londinium, how the Great Fire was prophesied by the Roane, and how he became King of Cats, Tybalt of the Court of Fogbound Cats. I read this for my 2020 Reading Challenge (52 Wks "part of a series" - published in Fantasy Medley 2 and Lightspeed Magazine March 2016).

Among the questions that fans of the October Daye series might want to see answered, I think the story of how Tybalt became King of Cats ranks pretty high. It definitely did for me and it's fascinating to see young Tybalt, not yet grown into his manhood or power, and clock the differences and similarities.

Princes die when they become Kings. It is the way of things. But oh, I would miss the foolish
Prince that I had been.

Bittersweet short story about how a Prince of Cats became Tybalt, King of Cats. I don't know enough about London history to have this event anchored in my mind, but I do appreciate how McGuire links her October Daye urban fantasy series to historical events.
