A light-hearted Alan Bennett tale of what might have happened had the Queen come across the mobile library and felt an obligation to check out a book.

She becomes addicted to reading, having never had the chance in her 50 years on the throne, and standards start to slip...  eventually she realises the importance of fulfilling her duties so she puts her books aside - only to wonder if she does in fact have a duty to write instead.

Some witty observations and musings on how her family and staff might treat her, an easy and quick read for a fan of the royal family and books, with  a fun ending

cute novella about the Queen. She discovers reading late in life and it completely distracts her from real life. That's the wonderful thing about reading, right? This was an incredibly quick read (about 120 pages), so it's wonderful for a rainy evening or a lazy weekend.

The audiobook contains dialogue and small amounts of music. It also has some old-fashioned language. Pretty relaxing but a bit boring at times with a lot of characters.

Inspiriert vom Buchspazierer. Allerdings bin ich wahrscheinlich nicht belesen genug, um die vollen Implikationen des literarischen Name Droppings zu überblicken.
Trotzdem ein nettes kleines Gedankenexperimenent.

A lovely book that really celebrates reading and books, and makes the point that the act of reading is not an idle one, but can be an active process of gaining a deeper understanding of the world and those who inhabit it. I particularly loved the passages discussing the increase in empathy after she began reading so voraciously. A lovely quick read.

This quite short novel was an entertaining way to spend a slightly extended lunch break. A character study from a time that never was, postulating a monarch that is decidedly implausible, but an interesting though experiment all the same.

There was the odd pot-shot at politicians that I might have recognised at the time that it was written, but have no clue on today (Other than Margaret Thatcher).

Light-hearted, irreverent, easy to read.
