fast paced with a lot of fun banter back and forth. there's not a lot of world building for it being a historical setting which was disappointing and not a lot of descriptions of anything outside of character feelings tbh.

characters are fine. rounded enough to be enjoyable but not super deep. i liked daphne well enough to start even if the book went out it's way to make sure you knew she wasn't like other girls because of you know she has four brothers right? she wasn't the most compelling heroine but she was fine. then a lot of that good faith went out the window with what she does to Simon in the third act. there was no real remorse for what she does and everything is put on Simon. yes he lied, acted out of trauma and was emotionally constipated but i think there was a way to handle this storyline that wasn't that. just left a bad taste in my mouth especially after i'd found the first half of the book so fun.

also was really obvious that daphne didn't have any friends? nor was there any mention of real friends? at least not by name. just really stuck out to me. girl could have used a pal.

I somehow managed to live under a rock and not know about THAT Scene. It caught me completely off guard and ruined an otherwise decent book. The 1 star is for everything I read up until that point.

Had to read this after enjoying the series but feeling like they handled the marital rape poorly. I think the book makes it even more clear that it was assault but handles it even worse, trying to walk the clear assault back from the character’s perspective.

I will say, I appreciate the emotionality of the writing and the female perspective on sex. And the necessity of sex education the book makes a case for. It, unfortunately, fell short of rising to its own standard.

Also i find Daphne a bit annoying and Simon a bit too melancholy. Not sure why either is desirable in their circles except that we presume they are good looking.

After watching Bridgerton I was sure I would like the book, but never would have guessed how completely I enjoyed it start to finish.

I don't think a book has ever made me laugh as much as The Duke and I. I adored every character we got a chance to know. I was surprised how little a part Lady Whistledown played in the book. Many of the conflicts in the book were far more satisfying than the show, feeling much more realistic and believable.

I would definitely suggest checking trigger warnings. Even with the show I wasn't expecting so much talk on a few heartbreaking subjects that could be sensitive.

All in all I'm very excited to start the next book even though Ibwas hesitant before having not really enjoyed Anthony's season of the show.

The Duke and I is exactly what you want if you’re looking for a fast and fun regency romance. I’m new to the genre, but this definitely has me hooked on the series.

I absolutely adore the “Lady Whistledown” element, she gives the story a Gossip Girl-vibe. Seriously, who is Lady Whistledown and who are her sources?!

You can’t help but to love the Bridgerton family, they exude charm and warm heartedness.

Don’t let the number of children, or novels, in the Bridgerton series intimidate you. If you’re a fan of the show, want to dip your toes in the genre, or maybe you’re even a seasoned regency romance lover, pick up this book and sip some “tea” with the Bridgertons.
