A nice read on the go-by. Not too challenging, not too boring. Daphne is a lot more feisty than I expected her to be and I like it. The relationships in the book sometimes seem to rushed and hallow, but I guess that is the point of it.

I read this book because I wanted to know what the hype was about.
Well it's definitely problematic. Maybe even more problematic than the series.
I did enjoy parts of the story but the relationship is surely toxic and the representation as well.

Did not like it, <they tried to rectify s/a, the whole situation was wrong and I believe that the duke rightfully left>

I didn’t finish the book because I watched the series, and didn’t like a specific scene in it and the way it was handled. I then learned that the scene in the book was worse and what happened was even more disgusting. As such, it made me lose all interest in the book, and so far I don’t think I’ll pick it up again.

I needed something (what I had presumed to be) light with maybe a little side of spicy after reading a few heavy hitters prior to this one. I’ll admit, I only put this on hold in the library system because I watched the show first. Indeed, the show does follow some details loosely based on this book which was nice to notice as I read. I did like Daphne more as a character in the book compared to her show counterpart - more standing up for herself which was nice to see. Simon is a little questionable but the eventual sex scenes between him & Daphne were nothing to complain about. It did bother me though that Anthony, Benedict (although he seemed more of a follower) and Colin felt the need to barge in to their sister’s life and automatically assume Simon was the one in charge when Simon had stressed a few times the two were partners, it’s their home (Daphne and his) not strictly just his. I also wish
that someone tells these women more about sex?! Why the hell did they let Daphne assume the worst ? Was every women left in the dark this much?
The Featheringtons weren’t heavy duty players in this book, Lady Danbury barely and no French seamstress but overall - I think it accomplished what it was supposed to - British high society and the complexities behind it all. Some plot developments I wish could have been taken out,
disappointed that the non consensual sex that Daphne was responsible for was still there
I also noted that <Simon’s stutter is a huge part of this novel - it didn’t make any appearance on the show. However, Daph was right - why the heck was he going to let his Dad control him from the grave?</spoiler.> So yeah, a few plotlines might have been taken away but overall, not a bad read.
