A book about a race horse usually wouldn't hold much appeal for me but such is the talent of Geraldine Brooks that I'll follow her anywhere and be grateful for it.
I loved this book. Just read it.

Imaging the details of the true story of Lexington, the fastest American racehorse of the mid 1800s, Geraldine Brooks uncovers the lives of the black men—freed and enslaved—who oversaw the care and training of the horses for the wealthiest owners. Detailing more recent interest in the paintings and the bones of these horses demonstrates the relevance of this history.

Interesting fictional read about a race horse, race in America, art, and pre-civil war southern America.

Great audio version with multiple readers. I loved the stories of Lexington and the storyline in the 1800’s, but not as much the stories that jump forward in time trying to piece together the history of the horse’s legacy.
