My kind of romance- not too much sex but the type of rom-com that brings a smile to me

I love a good rom-com as much as anyone, but this was kind of hard to get through- especially the first third of the book. The main character makes it hard to root for, she’s whiney and blind and handles herself like a teenager instead of a grown, intelligent women. Honestly it kind of gave the nerdy girls a bad rep making it seem like a trope that they’re socially awkward and lack confidence. I did however enjoy the ending, despite its obvious predictability, and thought there were quite a few clever lines. The best part was probably the names of her grandpa’s birds!

I’m pretty sure I spent 33% of this book hating the main character and yet… I can’t help but rate this 4 stars

Very cute romance but it was a little too much for me with LOTR and D&D references.

the first few chapters were difficult to get through bc i kept yelling @ the fl for how dumb & delusional she was being!!!!!!! but thank god she got some sense knocked into her from her friend & redirected her attention to the man of her dreams c'mon now!! even tho i didn't rlly get the references she was making (e.g., lord of the rings, star wars, etc.), @ least ml did, which secured his spot in her heart. there was lots of tension, which is always fun to read hehe i gave it 3 stars tho bc of the beginning of the book & also bc i went in thinking there would be some spice & i quickly realized that wasn't happening :( but it was still a fun read tho! it was nice to have the fl be super smart & know what she wanted to do (i need to take some notes from her omg). i also learned about neurocosmetics, which was cool. all in all, a good read! i recommended the book to my friend to read as well, esp since it took me <5 hrs to read in one sitting bc it was pretty good & had me sitting on the edge of my living room couch :)
