It’s hard to say whether I enjoyed this or not. I liked the individual storylines of the different characters and their families, and how they would sometimes make appearances in each other’s lives. All the characters had rich inner lives and relationships that were illustrated beautifully and felt real in their detail. The one big detraction was that the entire thing just felt a bit… dull. Nothing much happens and what did happen happened incredibly, achingly slowly. Granted, sometimes this pace felt like a leisurely amble, a perfect speed for the slow pace of life for the “summer people”. Most of the time, though, it felt like a rough slog. 3/5

also: WHAT happened to Elizabeth? Am I missing something really obvious?? Kind of annoying that it felt like her disappearance was such a big deal to Renee, and then what actually happened wasn’t really addressed.
