Let me begin by saying that I love everything Olivie writes. I love her weird wonderful little brain. I don't need her work to be perfect. I don't need it to be accessible or easy. It speaks to me, unfailingly, just as it is. Imperfections and all.

The way this story unfolds is interesting if not especially effective. And the characters are striking if not fully explored. And shockingly, the sense of place was lacking. This setting is an embarrassment of riches and yet it just didn't come through. I think I would have enjoyed it more if it were longer. I don't know that we had all of the scenes or space we needed to fully enjoy this plot and develop the atmosphere.

Most disappointing is the audio production. One of the worst I've ever encountered. While the narration left much to be desired, the real failure here is in editing. Audible swallows and awkward long pauses between sentences should have been removed. Mispronunciations should have been flagged. Such a shame to butcher Olivie's beautiful writing.

I didn’t feel this epic love story from Elizabeth and Jacques.

I can tell the favorite character was Elizabeth.

Very rushed towards the end. The MC was okay, didn’t like Jack.

Love Elizabeth though🫶.

The demise of the villain was too quick for my liking.
