“I am half agony, half hope”

Do I always follow everything in Jane Austen? No. But her vibes are always immaculate.

It was very interesting to revisit this book circa 12 years after high school when I used to be so obsessed with it and considered it my absolute favourite Austen then, ranking it above P&P. Now... I don't know what I was thinking. :D It is an entertaining read, sure. But now I find the characters very blend, none my favourite loveable one, basically all of them piss me off and not in the fun Austen way. I used to find Frederick such a dreamboat, now, reading it as an adult, I think he's a dick, sorry. Not even the, I give him that,
super romantic swoony love letter to Anne at the end excused his chauvinistic rant about women on the board of a ship or his macho courting games with Henrietta and Louisa (and Anne)
for me. I do think that the overall premise of the story is so good though - but, in my opinion, it could have been executed so much better and I finished it pretty dissapointed.

Name someone who does it better than Jane Austen… I’ll wait.
