overwritten, poor plot and characterizations. couldn't stand anybody in the book. was told by friends who had read further that "nothing happens" and there's no payoff.

In this Black Anastasia retelling, professional royalty “fixer” Beznaria Chetchevaliere goes on a mission to bring home her country’s lost princess and clear her family’s name. The only problem? This supposed lost princess wants nothing to do with the royal life! Makeda Hicks has just lost her job and her girlfriend, even though she’s the queen of fixing things and people, and she’s determined to put herself first. Bez walking into Makeda’s life isn’t part of the plan, and they try desperately to fight the attraction brewing between them.
True to Alyssa Cole’s signature storytelling, this book was hilarious and a true homage to the idea of accepting yourself: fixing yourself doesn’t mean changing yourself but rather accepting yourself where you are and finding healthy ways to grow. Essentially, fixing yourself versus fixing the way you think of yourself. I found the ending to be a bit rushed and the pacing wonky in moments, but overall, I liked it and would recommend. HOW TO FIND A PRINCESS has both lesbian rep and neurodivergent rep.

I really wanted to like this book, it had a lot of promise as being a fun romance but I just could NOT get into it. Maybe it was the audiobook version that was throwing me off or the writing style. Either way I just couldn't do it.

- I’m obsessed with these main characters. One is kind to a fault, to the point of catching her girlfriend trying to move out secretly (which she only sees cause she was fired from her job that day), and she tries to help with her gf’s luggage. The other’s term of endearment is “my beautiful sea slug”.
- I loved the tension in this one, as well as the growth!
- I wasn’t sure how I felt about the ending. It felt a little rushed, and I really wanted to see more of the MCs after the final scene’s events.

The first 30% were excellent. Madeka's situation hit really hard. She's a people pleaser, she's tying her worth to what she can do for other people and that was really relatable.
The rest of the story was too much plot, not enough romance for me. I wanted sexy times sooner instead of this long drawn thing where they can't for stupid reasons.
So I liked the characters but not the story, if that makes any sense.

I had wanted to read an FF romance as well as an Alyssa Cole book this year and I love that I got to do both with the fabulous *How To Find a Princess*.
I absolutely loved these characters. Keda’s need to help everyone struck very close to home and I felt so incredibly protective of her. Whenever her efforts were rejected badly or backfired, I felt it in my bones and just wanted to give her a hug and say it’s going to be okay! I love the way she is so independent and takes a stand to treat herself better, and it was hilarious to see her so thrown by Bez’s chaos energy. Their chemistry was SO strong and the steamy scenes left me needing to cool off under a fan (that storm scene y’all
