I love them, your honor. 🥹♥️

This was everything I needed it to be- swoony, angsty, tender.

-Gay, Jewish MC with a hearing impairment
-Bi, Venezuelan LI (I don't think it explicitly mentions it, but Eugenio reads as Demisexua/ Bi Romantic to me)
-Second Chance Romance told in Single POV through two timelines
-Discussions of homophobia, biphobia, coming out

I have such a soft spot for this series and characters - I’m glad I finally read all of it, although I regret doing so out of order only because the payoff of book 3 would have been even more satisfying. Books 2 and 3 both have dual POVs, and I think that was missing here - I wanted a little more of Eugenio’s viewpoint. But this was still very sweet and heartfelt, even with a solid dose of angst, and as always lots of compelling baseball.

It was a good read but do listen to the reviews when they say the best part of the story is the last 20%. As a lot of the book is switching between the present and 3 years ago.

Pros: This book for me was really interesting as I’ve never read a book about baseball before. The story follows Zach through his journey of being a baseball player throughout the majors and how he find love along the way.

Cons: Personally this book felt long at times and rushed toward the end. I was hoping there was a bit more sweetness but that just my personal opinion 😭.

Content Warnings: This story talks about big topic such as coming out, homophobia and the general challenges of being in sports as a disabled player.

Overall this book is a 4 stars.

The romance was lovely and the characters felt really real and thoughtful. Their fears and joys made sense and it did a great job making complicated parts of baseball more understandable to those who might not follow it. The angst was spectacular and the ending was worth the wait! I loved how each character had complex identities and came from very different backgrounds and could still come together in these ways!

I'm really sad I couldn't finish this bc I love sports stories but the characters were so flat I couldn't care about them no matter how hard I tried. Weirdly enough, the side characters have more personality than the main characters. I also dislike the flashback format, I'd rather see the present and have the past filled in through dialogue or reminiscing. Overall, Rachel Reid's Game Changer Series is a far better sports series.
