A beautiful heart wrenching story of a young boy at wild and a friendship with a pelican called Mr. Percival

I am so happy I pre-read this before suggesting it for a bedtime story for Miss 8, as my own heart was broken and hers would be shattered

A true Australian classic. One of the books I read in elementary school that really stayed with me. Beautiful nature writing, simple but elegant prose and characters that feel fully developed, even in such a short book. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to read a bit of Australiana with their children. My two boys (aged 8 and 10) became quite attached to the Mr. Percival character, and I think it gave them a glimpse of the landscape I knew as a child.

This book was selected for us to read as a class text for Year 6. I agreed, even though I had never read it before. My students and I were hooked from the very beginning. This Australian classic had me feeling all the emotions.

Storm Boy loves like no other. He loved his Dad, his friends and his Pelican. I have to admit I was worried about how this book may come across as cheesy but it wasn't at all. For such a short read, it had such wonderful character development and depth.

Again, this is a book that does have a movie adaptions, two in fact. I have yet to see any of them but I just may need to. I also returned my borrowed copy but purchased a new copy for myself... This is book I will be reading again and again. I think it may also be a book I gift this Christmas. A great book for all ages.

I used this for a novel study with my Year 5 students, and we all enjoyed the story so much. Well-written storyline, and you fall in love with Mr Percival so easily!

I liked the writing of it, the story was very sad and I definitely cried but overall it was good.
