Thank you to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first Anne Frasier book I've read, and I had a bit of difficulty getting into it at the beginning, as previous events (from previous books, I assume) were often referred to. In that sense, I didn't feel it was quite as stand-alone as it purported to be, and I was constantly trying to fit the pieces of the past - as known to me - together.

That said, the story is compelling and very dark, and holds a rich and complex group of characters. The author has the ability to help us see and feel what Jude does, and that really pulled me in - even though what she must have gone through in her past is beyond my comprehension. Another major character in this story is Minnesota - and more specifically, Minnesota in the grip of a harsh and unforgiving winter. Having grown up with harsh Michigan winters, I can relate. Most, if not all the supporting characters were equally well-drawn.

The twists and turns, many of them not foreseeable, and the final victory, made this a very satisfying read. Highly recommended!

I listened to the last book (as of now) available in very consecutive sittings. My rating for this book is because of my interest and how it kept drifting back to the narrative despite all the other things weighing on my time and mind. If cold cases (pun intended) are interesting to anyone, this is a book that should be on your radar. It dwells lesser on the details of actual crimes and more on the after and the incomplete threads. I liked how things tied up and the information that was thrown up. A couple of things I actually saw coming but did not begrudge its revelation. As I have mentioned in a few of my older reviews, this last bit is always welcome.
The story begins with an unnamed woman who has set out to get rid of evidence and escapes notice, but her actions have immediate consequences, she continues to add fuel to the fire with her plans. There are a lot of moving pieces, side emotional issues and substantial growth in Jude's character. After her escape, Jude was a different person, but she is changing once again, and the transition was gratifying to watch in this last book. There is a lot more emotion thrown into this, and if you have stuck with the series for this long, then this comes as a just reward.
Of the three, I think the narrator did the best job with differentiating between all the people as well as keeping me hooked to the narrator

This book is by far my favorite of the series. What a wild ride this book is. Twists and turns not just in the plot of the murder but also in the overall arch of the story.
I love the character development that jude has gone through and how she is comming out on the other side.
I also really enjoy the mystery of the murder story.
This book is well worth the read even if you just pick it up as a stand a long book. Its worth it.

Heart wrenching cases!

Jude and company are up against some despicable criminals this time. The twists and turns were mind boggling! Loved it!

Normally a third book in a series isn't as good as the first, I actually liked this one the best. Detective Jude Fontaine took a bit of time to grow on me, but she really has and I want more!

"A boy’s frozen body is found trapped in the ice of a Minneapolis lake. The horrifying discovery leads Detective Jude Fontaine and her partner, Uriah Ashby, to more bodies in the ice, all of twelve-year-old boys missing for twenty years. Then, in one of the worst blizzards the city has ever seen, a four-year-old is abandoned on Jude’s doorstep. The child can’t tell them where he’s from, who his parents are, or how he got there. He doesn’t even know his name. But in his unspoken language, Jude reads something horrifying—a connection to the dead boys. Now a four-year-old with no name may be the only key to a twenty-year-old, very cold case."

This is actually the last book in this series (wish there was more!) and Anne Frasier as always wrote an amazing book. Her character development is like no other. I truly fall in love with all her characters. The descriptions, the scenes, the mysteries with twists and turns are always amazing.

I read this in two days. If I didn't have something to do, would have finished the first night. I'm still not over the the Elise Sandburg series being done so Jude had a lot to live up to for me. I didn't think she could, even though I did truly enjoy the first two books in the series. Anne Frasier really came through by this one though. I fell in love with Jude. She had so much growth in this book, and it was amazing reading seeing how she dealt with being kidnapped all those years. She is such a strong character. This is really amazing series.

I recommend starting at book one in the series and binge reading all 3 in a row if you haven't read any yet! Then go back and read everything by Anne Frasier, seriously she is such an amazing author. Really one of my top 10 favorites. I will read anything she writes!

* I was given a kindle edition to read prior to release. I would have read anyways though, I thank my lucky stars that I get to review her books early because the wait is awful! This book is also available on kindle unlimited if you have that!

I have to force myself to not fly through everything Anne Frasier writes because I don't want to have to wait for her next book release! Trust me it's difficult. She not only writes some of my favorite strong female leads, but creates character dynamics that blow my mind every single time. I will always be a fan girl for this woman. Even if detective thrillers are not your thing, I promise you Frasier revolutionizes the genre. If you're gonna give one a go shes what you should be reading!

I really enjoy Anne Frasier's writing and I loved the character development but at the end of the days this a police procedural series. On this particular book there was very little detecting going and it was really infuriating and disappointing. This police department sucks
