I enjoyed this book a great deal and would recommend it. My only criticism is that the
racial undertones
could have been explored more deeply and explicitly.

This is a book about generational family trauma, and still, it manages to be so personal and focused, which I think is a hard balance to strike, but this book did. I really liked the the way that facets of the story were revealed little by little. The ending is definitely not wrapped up in a perfect bow, and for this type of story, I was totally ok with that.

One of my favorite books of the year. And this audiobook narrator is a new favorite.

I wish I had been able to read this in high school!

I feel like everything is captured perfectly, from high school love to dealing with grief. Also, the element of grieving before you’ve even lost them. I loved Avery being able to connect with Mama Letty. The beach trip was absolutely beautiful.
There’s also this strong message of being who you truly are. Really enjoyed this!
