Lots of red herrings

Readable thriller...but why did Joe need to have Parkinson’s? Never seemed to impede his chasing or fighting anyone....just wondering and when did he work?

I did not realise that this was book 9 in the series. It read fine as a stand alone though and I really enjoyed it. Back to book one for me now !!

Picked this up as a Kindle offer as I am going to see a panel with the author in Scotland in September. It's a great read, and I only realized way into the book that it's number 9 in a series, but apart from a few obvious things it didn't spoil anything - so I immediately picked up the first in the series.

This novel is gripping from the start! The more Joe investigates the further the fall from grace for his seemingly perfect parents, the twists are unpredictable and saw me reading long into the night. I also loved that the book wasn't entirely focused on the investigation you got to experience Joe's personal struggles as he tried to balance finding out the truth as well as keeping himself and his daughters safe. Shamefully this is the first Robotham book I've read but it certainly won't be the last.

Thanks to Netgalley and the Little Brown Book Group for sending me this in exchange for an open and honest review.

I didn’t realise it was a series until almost finished. Oops. But I liked that it didn’t read like I was missing background info or context. It is not my usual read but it was clever and well written. Easy to listen to and follow, great characterisation and mystery reveal. I’d read more from this author for sure.

DNF at 28%. How this got so many high ratings, I'll never know. Dull, full of the most unlikely decisions and events. The main character is irritating and strangely naive given that he's supposed to know human nature and is a forensic psychologist, yet he meanders through the story making ill thought out decisions and acting outraged that things aren't how he wants them to be.
