Another great southern story. In this book, we learn about 3 generations of a family - Gus, the grandmother; Jessie, the daughter, and Evan, the granddaughter (teenager) in a small town in Alabama. One of the interesting things about this book, it is told from the point of view of each of these characters.
Things in this book made me think of things from my childhood or even now, dealing with a teenage daughter.
As much as I wanted to read this book, I didn't want it to end. But I stayed up past my bedtime, because I couldn't put it down. I don't want to give away too much about the book. Family, a little romance, and a lot of southern charm is in this book.

I read Lauren K. Denton's first novel, The Hideaway, and was utterly charmed by it so I was hoping for a similar feeling when reading Glory Road and I was not disappointed in the least.

This novel is told from three different generations of women in one family: Gus - the grandmother who is a wee bit sassy but still a southern lady at heart, Jessie - the mom who returned home after her marriage crumbled to the safety of what she's always known and Evan - the daughter who loves her Mom and Grandmother but still wants to test the boundaries just a bit. The story takes place over the span of one summer.

What I love most about Glory Road and all of Denton's books is how descriptive she is without being TOO wordy. You can easily put yourself into not only the world but imagine yourself as part of the family. The characters she creates are quite real and nuanced and Glory Road is no exception.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who just wants a good novel to get lost in. There's a little bit of romance, a little bit of coming of age and a little bit of aging. It's really a perfect book for all seasons and walks of life.

Thank you to Thomas Nelson for the free review copy. All opinions are my own.

I really enjoy Denton's southern fiction books. I love how she captures the humid summer, the rich food, and the charm of the people. This book had all of that and so much more. I liked how it was told from three different points of view, all women within the same family.

With the character of Gus, the grandmother of the story, the reader is able to see how she is struggling with aging and the effects that come from it.

With Jessie, the daughter of Gus and mom of Evan, the reader gets to explore the idea of what comes next. Jessie meets two wonderful men in this book and has to decide if any of them are for her. I liked how with Jessie, I was rooting for her in every situation. I liked how I could imagine her in a wide variety of scenarios, and I like how she took her time to decide what she wanted.

I really enjoyed Evan's character because I felt like I could relate to her in a lot of ways. I could related to how she had to figure out who she was and the struggles that come from wanting to stretch boundaries while also trying to balance the great mother-daughter relationship she has.

After reading The Hideaway a few years ago, I was in the mood for more warm hearted Southern charm from Lauren K. Denton. I was not disappointed. The characters had depth, and the story line takes you on the journey with them. Plus, who doesn’t love a happy ending?

Glory Road is a beautiful, slowly-paced story about three strong women from one family: 38-year-old Jessie, who returned to her hometown following her divorce; Jessie's 14-year-old daughter Evan, just about to begin her freshman year of high school; and Jessie's swiftly-approaching-70 mother Gus, who's desperately trying to hide her declining health from Jessie and Evan. The chapters alternate among the three women, and I found myself especially drawn to Jessie's chapters.

There is, of course, romance involved, and I really enjoyed where love (or like, in Evan's case) took each woman. Ben, Jessie's "one that got away," was especially wonderful, and I adored Gus's love story.

This book is fairly long (349 pages), but I actually would've liked for it to be longer! Especially near the end of the novel, there are several time jumps of a week, two weeks, or even a month or more, and I felt like I was missing something! I just wanted to spend more time immersed in the lives of the McBride women.

Glory Road is my first Lauren K. Denton novel, but it won't be my last. (I own her two other books already; now I just need to find the time to read them!) It's a beautiful, comforting, sweetly Southern novel that I won't soon forget. 4-1/2 stars.

Disclosure of material connection: I received this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review, and the opinions expressed are my own.

Glory Road is a sweet, entertaining story that has stayed with me long after I finished it. I loved Denton’s strong Southern female characters who I rooted for the entire tale. This would make a great summer vacation read.

Quickly becoming one of my favorite writers, Lauren Denton tells great stories. I enjoyed Glory Road as I did her other two. Books that you want to spend the whole day reading - and that’s just what I did!

I loved this book from start to finish. This is a character driven novel. I am already hoping for a sequel. I loved every character within the pages of Glory Road. Once again Lauren Denton did not disappoint.

After reading Hurricane Season I knew I had to read more by Lauren K. Denton. Y’all, as much as I enjoyed Hurricane Season I enjoyed this one even more.

I typically reserve 5 star ratings for books that are life-changing in some way but this one is so good it’s getting a 4.99 from me
