Under the radar but certainly worth a read given its inclusion throughout of excerpts offering either abstract or concrete observations and accounts of Chinese culture, experience and life from travelers past which make for a wide-ranging “literary companion” and intriguing portrait of historical China more so than a “travel guide.”
