We should tell fantasy authors that they don’t have to describe every piece of clothing and meal in detail. Also I finished a 34 hr audiobook in 3 days, so that’s interesting

It was good but slower paced that I’m used to and did have to drag myself through it to some points. That ending though 👌

a lot of good things about this book, but a lot of bad things too. most notably the treatment of teenage girls is creepy at best. while I understand that at some points in history, it was customary for girls to get married around the time of their first period, wee old Georgey seems to delight in discussing the naked body and genitalia of a fourteen year old girl. out of nowhere he'll be talking about 'her sex' and 'her lips' even though she's doing something mundane like getting dressed. the focus of a scene won't be on her getting out of the bath, but on how the moon shines off her 'milk laden breasts' or how her handmaid 'slips a perfumed finger into sex'. teenage boys, men and actual adult women are not treated this way in the text, only the young girls. it's fucking creepy!

Truly, this is a beast of a book. I love the character development of Daenerys, Robb, and Jon especially. While the book didn't make me immediately love the characters, I found that I really grew attached to them throughout the process of reading, really caring for some and truly hating others. Overall, it's a truly amazing piece of fiction. I look forward to buying and reading the rest of the currently available series. Definitely for more mature readers, and I think if you like Brandon Sanderson, these books are right up your alley (and vis versa), though be prepared for much darker themes and descriptions.
