This book tells the harrowing story of a mother and baby home for unmarried mothers. I think this is an important issue and the notes at the end were very interesting about the older children and doctors (without giving any spoilers)
I enjoyed the fast moving plot. However, I think it was rather obvious in places and perhaps if less clues were given the big reveals could've been less expected. I would also have liked the characters to have been more developed about their backgrounds and motivations for their behaviour. Also more of the back stories such as Kitty's relationship with the footballer and Nanas relationship with her parents.

Interesting book. I like how it all tied in. My complaint is the only good that would come out of this book - that I was waiting for the whole time, was ended prematurely and left up to the reader to “imagine” I personally ::hate:: when authors do this. One of my biggest pet peeves is when authors do this. Disappointing.

I'm not a huge fan of dual time lines in books, and not surprisingly didn't quite work for me. Liked the part when it was set in the earlier time in the 50's but wasn't as invested in the modern parts. It was still a decent story but not at all a new favorite but it's more a me thing as the dual time line plot isn't usually my thing. Can see why other love it and it works better for them though

Even though this is a fictional story it was a educational read. I felt the time and atmosphere was portrayed great.
It had it’s twists and turns to keep the pages turned.

Three stars is a bit generous. I liked the topic of unmarried girls and their fortunes (or misfortunes) as late as the 1970s in England. But -- there were too many characters, too many names, too many sub-themes going through this book and it made it difficult to keep track of everyone.
Having said that, any time a book makes me go looking for additional information it's not all that bad at all.
