this book has~
- pimple picking
- casual fatphobia
- weird hand sucking fetish thing (moshfegh what’s the meaning of this)
- brooding, feeling existential
- human beings are fucking awful (we know this)
- wanting to leave this planet (not me though thanks!)
- characters are so unbelievably awful and ignorant (some maybe aware of it, others not so much)

I did enjoy reading this book despite all the gross things they say or do.

Ottessa Moshfegh is either a certified genius or an authentic whacko.

soooo... let's just say i'm not an ottessa moshfegh girlie.

i was hoping that i would enjoy this book more than "my year of rest and relaxation" because it's a collection of short stories which would give me a wider view of moshfegh's writing abilities, but i still despised this book. one story was about this woman who was dating this off-the-wall, strange man obsessed with aliens, which was a bit amusing because it reminded me of this dude my mom used to date. i audibly laughed at some of the things the male character was saying solely because it was as if my mom's ex was in written form.

i'm not sure what i was expecting to get out of this book. for some reason i think i was anticipating a more... creepy/thriller/horror vibe? not what i got at all. it essentially is a collection of stories circling around shitty ass people. "homesick for another world" shows us a myriad of ways people can be terrible.

I ❤️ Otessa
