While the premise is totally absurd (not usually a problem for me) I was a little surprised how unhinged the protagonist became, but I guess who wouldn’t under the circumstances? The plot kept me mostly engaged and needing to know how it turned out.

Some rough spots for Lauren but hey life isn't perfect!

One of my favorite books I read this year! I was torn between a 4 and 5 star, because I didn't feel any connection with the characters, particularly the protagonist, who felt distant and unattached (much like in her many marriages). I started off with a 4 star, but seeing that I had so much to say in the review, I decided it should earn a 5 star spot. Call it 4.5 rounded up.
The first bit of the book felt particularly lonely, so when Bohai comes into the picture and she can finally have someone who believes and relates to her, I felt relieved (despite finding his character a bit annoying in personality).
I was also quite satisfied with the resolution on Carter - while his rejection of her was incredibly cringe and not a second chance at their love story, it felt like appropriate closure (and effectively made me, and also Lauren, not pine for their future anymore).
I kept wondering how the book would end. Many reviews are saying the book was too long and she went through too many husbands and we didn't get to know any of them - this is all likely true, but I actually appreciate the execution as-is. It seems more realistic that this is what would actually happen to someone in this scenario - finding themselves in an endless loop of possibility of the next one being better, and since it's so easy to exchange, why not?
When Lauren finally is at her wit's end and forces to stay with a husband she knows just the bare minimum about, she has to go to the extreme of burning her inherited apartment down. And yet, I appreciated the message, in all its nuance. I also appreciated that Bohai found his forever person in a different (and perhaps more traditionalistically romantic) method, showing that there isn't just a one path formula - either way, it takes commitment.
While this book wasn't a great emotional one for me, I found the premise so interesting and original (even within the "many alternate lives" concept, which I'm a huge fan of) and I found the message relevant without being pushy.

I really enjoyed this book! It’s a very fun and out of the box read.
