I’m not giving this book 5 stars because it’s the best manga I’ve ever read.. but holy shit the story is so original. The entire thing is depressing and disgusting. The story takes you places you’re not expecting and it’s horrifying. And for that, it deserves my praise.

heard a lot about this manga, so was disappointed when i finally read it: it is kinda interesting in terms of beauty standards and looking perfect and the horrors of plastic surgery- especially for actors and idols, but because all the characters suck i don't think it's as powerful as it could maybe have been

A good critique of the world of fashion and consumerism, and how quickly a flourishing career can fall apart, often times taking ones sanity along with it.

Such a strong read for a stand alone manga. Dark reality about fame and beauty.

I read this a second time just to make sure I didn't miss anything when I was younger. Was there supposed to be a moral lesson besides the obvious? Vain people will always exist and beauty doesn't last?

The main character made a choice to become a model to get out of poverty despite knowing it wouldn't last. Now she's abusing everyone around her when the consequences of what was obviously to come are catching up to her. She rapes her assistant multiple times. She tries to permanently disfigure a woman's face. Am I supposed to feel sorry for her?

You know what would have been a great story? Showing her get better after quitting the industry. Depicting her sister or another character get out of poverty by means of intelligence. Showing how beauty isn't necessary for a good life (in a broader dimension than a detective's words). There were many viable options for something meaningful and none were taken.
