I read this book a long time ago (hence, the "younger reads" category), and it really scared me back then. The book isn't all that clear, so I won't give it a rating, but it is quite an interesting and original concept that I just happened to come across at a premature time in my childhood.

Seriously why do I love these books so much.

Good stuffs: The hero and the cat and oh my gosh the monsters. This entire story world how is it this perfect. All the depth and...realness. I felt like i was right there. ANd I loved May. A lot.

Bad stuffs: Um....i actually don't know.

Villain: Ok so some would say the bogeyman is cheesy....but he isn't he isn't.... He's creepy oh my goodness.

Hero: May is amazing and just....she's so quirky and fun to follow along.

And i can't really say anything else but seriously I read these a long time ago and now I want to reread them. The last one will hurt you.

General Description: May Bird can see ghosts and everyone thinks she's a bit odd. She follows a strange calling to a lake that leads her to the Ever After. Turns out, May doesn't want to stay in the Ever After and wants to get home. With the help of her house ghost Pumpkin, can May Bird get to the capital city of the Ever After and discover a way home?

The good:
- The world is SO clever.
- You can't tell me you didn't instantly love Pumpkin and Somber Kitty. They are some of my favorite side characters of all time.
- The pacing was incredible to me, I couldn't put it down.
- The overall adventure and mystery were enthralling,

The loss of a half star:
- I thought reading a middle-grade book would be straightforward for me but the world-building and explanations of how everything works were a bit confusing at times where I had to go back and re-read for my own comprehension and it still didn't make sense.

Overall: If you're looking for an easier read with a fantastic world, cute characters, and a thrilling fantasy story, you'd enjoy May Bird.

This was getting too creepy for me so I quit reading. I might pick it up again some time to find out how it ended. It was surprisingly dark and eerie for a children's book.

Wow. Just... wow. This book is original and captivating; creepy and provoking---solid with its characters. The writing transports you immediately to the pages of the book.

Luckiest to have found this book in a second-hand bookstore. It was the gem hidden beneath the pebbles.
