A beautiful and heartwrenching read. I didn't connect with it as much as I hoped I would, but I still loved this one a whole lot. Highly recommended.

He’s awkward. And that’s such a relief and really funny and actually makes him even more attractive.

“You have to let go of everything negative you associate with being gay. All that makes us resent this part of ourselves. And then come to terms with who you are. Reject all the hate you were raised to believe. It won’t be something that happens overnight, but you’ll get there.”

“It’s complicated. You want to have your entire life planned out, but life isn’t something that will take orders or that we can construct in a way we’ll always be comfortable with.”

“Now tell me you love me.”
“You tell me first.”

Maybe 4.5? Aah, it was really really good. I think what got it from 4 stars to 5 is definitely the theme of moving away, leaving your friends and usual support system. The other themes were also so good and well-handled, but this one especially kicked me in the feels at the end
I'm also really glad to have a book that really explores the relationship between abusive parents and queer kids, and still is overall a very hopeful/joyful read despite everything
