Loved it. Fun. Spooky. Dark.

Horror is a little outside of my comfort zone, this was alright but that poem is going to be living rent free in my brain for a while

After the death of her father Jane and Ruth move to Maine from California. As you can imagine this is a huge culture shock for Jane. This on top of Jane's mental health and anger management issues she was struggling to keep it together. This book deals heavily in grief so be aware of that going in. It also deals with a disorder called Pica which if like me you don't know what that is it's an eating disorder characterized by the persistent ingestion of non-food substances that have no nutritional value. I had to google this myself. I just have to point this out again. This book deals with a lot of heavy topics pertaining to mental health so please do your research before reading.

I liked this book enough to want to read it all the way through to find out what happens, but the ending is what didn't work for me. As I've already mentioned in the review before this, I hate open endings. When I finish a book, I don't want to have to use my imagination to come up with what may or may not have happened. I want the author to spell it all out for me. This is a personal preference, and I can see why people love it but I do not. This was my first book by this author and while it wasn't a love I could see myself picking up something else by this author.

primary reason why this book doesn't make sense: you move into an old house and weird things start happening to and around you, and even though you live in the age of The Internetâ„¢ you don't look up said house to see what happened

This would work great as a film or TV show but as a book it felt kind of flat. It was good but it was not great. The ghost appeared too late for a self called ghost story. And the ending felt rushed and anticlimactic. More development could have made it cool as hell but it just fell flat. Plus, so many loose ends.
