How We Fall Apart

Not the best book I’ve read, but also definitely not the worst. I love a good mystery and this was definitely one that i never figured out until it was revealed, but the revelation fell flat to me. It also didnt seem like the author did a whole lot of research, especially when it came to Peter being a student teacher, but maybe I’m looking at that part too critically as I was an education major in undergrad. I also agree with other reviewers who say that the characters were one dimensional- it’s true.

I would, however, read the sequel! It would be interesting to see how the story progresses next or see the story from another point of view.

So I'm trying to be more conscious about reading books written by and/or starring Asian Americans since it's Asian American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month. This is the first one that I've finished....and I really didn't like it. It felt like it was trying to accomplish *way* too many things, Nancy was kinda of a blah protagonist (and that ending? thank u no), the mystery was WAY too rushed (though it probably doesn't help that I was comparing it to One of Us is Lying the whole time). I was hoping for more of a dark academia and this wasn't it.
*contains swearing, mentions of teacher/student relationship (yeah hated that too), kissing*

Felt kinda like it was trying too hard to capitalize on the One of Us is Lying popularity. Also, the twist ending felt a little unbelievable.

jaj de nagy csalódás volt ez a könyv, értékeltem a problémafelvetéseket, de nagyon csak a felszínt kapargatta, jópár dolog a thrillerben kifejezetten gyerekes és béna volt. a karakterek meg.. mehh.

DID NOT FINISH: 33%

Just stopped reading and Libby returned it

It was good, but not as good as good as I’d hoped. It had such potential, but I don’t think it ever quite got there. But, the good stuff: I adored the characters, including the secondary ones; I think the setting was awesome, both the school and NYC; and I loved the weird ending!!! I don’t know why I don’t like happy shiny endings, but it’s nice to get different, especially quirky finishes, too.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 for this twisty murder mystery. When the top student at Sinclair Prep is found dead, her four former best friends are labeled as the prime suspects. Nancy, the main character, knows what she did to rise to the top - and knows that she didn’t kill Jamie. When an anonymous account starts sending information to the students of Sinclair Prep about the four friends, Nancy knows it is only a matter of time before her secrets are revealed. Heavy on action, with a student-teacher relationship and depictions of drug use. Best suited for grades 9+.

3.5 stars, it was a good book, the plot twists were fantastic but the plot itself fell flat. The characters were similar to other characters in mystery type books so I was a little disappointed at that bit. The topics covered in the book were addressed in a great manner ☝️
