It's a much quicker pace than the Dragonheart Legacy. I love how, as the reader, you are thrown into the story with only little to go on. You find out the secrets and plots as the story goes on. The characters all have distinct personalities that I enjoy. I LOVED all the pop culture references because they weren't overdone and fit the discussion without being annoying.
Because it is so quick-paced, I feel I am sometimes missing something, which is why it didn't get a 5-star. I love the inclusion of a myth as well as the feel of a treasure hunt where the safety of the world hangs in the balance. I can't wait to get the next two books!

i've been reading NR books for years and though some reviews dislike how repetitive some of her books are, i'd go the opposite way and say i appreciate that they're predictable and follow certain formulas. it lets me know that when i want a book i can breeze through while having fun, i just need to find a paranormal/fantasy romance trilogy by her. i like patterns so i make it a little game to find her signature plot points across her series. perhaps, that's how she has already written more than 200 books, by having a formula.

I wish I could use emojis in this post... I feel like that would convey the frustration so much more succinctly and adequately than words... but here we go.

This book was stupid.

Spoilers ahead.

******************************************************************************

Maybe Nora Roberts is just not for me. I was so confused at the raving 5 and 4 star reviews. What am I missing?! I felt a little better looking through more of the reviews to at least find some other disgruntled people.

I hated this book. It was so dumb.

The characters were dumb. I hated the main character of no spine and whine-iness. I hated her need to be reassured by stupid man character the entire novel. If I have to see fjord or whatever he calls her one more time I might barf.

This is the entirety of the book.

I am so weak. Trust my power. Lets eat in the kitchen. Now lets go have mind blowing sex (which let me tell you... not mind blowing. Dumb.) Now lets return downstairs to decompress. Oh look a battle with the "evil" entity. Repeat. Insert discovery about someone being supernatural.

The dialogue was awful. The story was awful. The characters were awful.

I am so NOT reading the sequels. Especially since I read one of the reviewers saying that each part of the trilogy focuses on a relationship between a different couple. Please no. Gag me.

No no no no no.

Did I miss something here? Clearly this is NOT my style or my genre. No.

Okay I feel a little bit better now...

***Minor Spoilers Maybe?****
I have always loved Nora Roberts best when she incorporates elements of fantasy, supernatural, etc. into her books. This was no exception. As usual for her books the characters and world they live in are instantly loveable. I found myself caring for and rooting for these characters almost as much as my all time favorites from her Blood Brothers Trilogy. Things that should be cheesy or over the top (AKA: Mermaids) were magical and so fun to read about. I was miserable when I finished this because I couldn't find the sequel Bay of Sighs at my library. I finally broke down and bought the kindle version of the sequel. Now I'm anxiously awaiting #3.

I really enjoyed this book. I had a few minor issues, but once I got into the story I didn't want to leave it. A big part of Nora Roberts books is the romance, and I must say I really enjoyed that part. It made me incredibly happy.
All in all really enjoyed this and plan on picking up the reaming books very soon.
