sarahjpoppy's review against another edition
The Good People is intense, powerful and moving. Once again, Kent carefully describes a time and place that is fraught with danger. Here blame, grief, ignorance and superstition all bind together and hover around the heads and hearts of a wretched community, living in cold, dank and joyless hovels and barely surviving. As I was pulled inexorably towards the inevitable, outcomes, I became increasingly world weary and uncomfortable. Hannah Kent’s writing is as lovely as ever, but is so very evocative that I became quite distressed and finally found myself unwilling to pick it up again. I hope to return to this brilliant but awful story when I’m feeling more robust.
Graphic: Grief, Death, Emotional abuse, Bullying, Medical trauma, Physical abuse, and Religious bigotry

This book started extremely slow and was hard to get in to but it picked up towards the middle. It switched between 3 POVs and sometimes that got confusing. Also I had to look up some words and it would have been nice to have a little glossary in the back but I know that is asking a lot. I did enjoy the 2nd half of this book and would recommend it to a strong reader because I did struggle a bit. I would also recommend it to anybody that has an interest in folklore which I do. Also the end of the book kind of made me mad but oh well.
Moderate: Child abuse and Child death
Minor: Death, Excrement, Miscarriage, and Physical abuse
