Not me unexpectedly bawling at the last paragraph of the
epilogue! The story got better and better for me as it went on, and the epilogue brought everything together in such a poignant, beautiful way. This book touched on so many more topics than I had anticipated, and I really enjoyed how Carley Fortune featured reflections on familial and platonic love in addition to the main romantic love story. Looking forward to reading more from this author!

“I like you…You’re too pretty and too tall, but you’re good with babies and you seem smart. And frankly, that was the best risotto I’ve ever had. But if you fuck my friend over again, I will drive to Toronto, and I will kill you.”

Carley Fortune is an auto-buy/read author for me and I absolutely loved this. I LOVE her writing style so much. This book (despite not being the same) has Dirty Dancing ✨vibes✨ and as one of my favorite movies I absolutely adored it.

Meet Me at the Lake follows FMC Fern as she takes over the family resort after her mom unexpectedly passes away. She learns a lot about herself and what she wants and navigates if she wants to run the resort (something she never saw for herself and her future) or sell. MMC Will (old flame of course) shows up to the resort as a hired consultant (by the mother) to help bring in more business. It really heats things up if you know what I mean… 😉🌶️

I really liked all the characters in here and definitely felt the chemistry. The story follows a few timelines- present day, ten years earlier, and snippets of the mom’s perspective through her journals. I think the journals were a really sweet addition. Dare I say, however limited, the love story (platonic and romantic) between Fern’s mom and Peter as told through journals was the most beautiful of all. The slow burn between the main characters is great. A perfect example of right person, wrong time. I also love the themes of friendship and familial love as well. The entire story is a beautiful journey of growing into yourself and accepting that plans may change and that’s okay.

Predictable and a little unrealistic at times, but overall a cute summer read!

“I know you're not ready right now, honey, but I think one day you'll find your heart's too big for just you.”

A very cute book! I loved learning more and more about Fern’s relationship with her mother, and learning more about her mother’s past, as the book went on. And even though Will finally opening up and letting Fern in only happened because of his sister, it was a wonderful way of resolving Fern and Will’s communication breakdown.

Just a little bit of spice but a lot of pining and love.

The emotions this book elicited from me caught me off guard in the best way possible. I went into this with the impression that it was going to be a second chance, right person/wrong time, romance but when I tell you I was in TEARS at certain points in this book I mean it. It pulls at your heart strings and leaves you with this tender-hearted love for these characters and their journeys and how, inevitability, they are once again brought back together (even if it was 10 years "too late"). I had such a great time listening to this book and loved every second of Fern and Will's story.

I wasn't fully sold on this book and this love story until maybe 75% of the way through. I just didn't get hooked and kept getting distracted until I was almost crying. The three story timelines were well done, but lack of communication is such a not fav for me.

okay!! i liked this book a lot. the story was PRECIOUS and i thought it would be the perfect 2 hr rom-com movie. i’m in love with will baxter and all toxic men like him (toxic bc of his actions not who he is. 10/10 person, crappy way of expressing who he is bahaha).

i would’ve given this book a 4 maybe if the ending wasn’t so cliche and poorly executed. will needed to fight for fern imo but instead his sister intervened ??? excuse me. will you are 30 yrs old plz get a grip. i also realized while reading this book that I AM FERN. i literally hold onto ppl and ideas of ppl just like she did. a super relatable book—it was just the ending that i didn’t loveeee. would recommend tho! also very spicy bahaha 🫢
