Rating: 5 /5

I have been wanting to read The Scorpio Races for so long! On numerous occasions I had started the first few chapters only to put the book down 5 chapters in for some unknown reason. However, when Maggie said at her book signing just how much she loved this book I had to set myself straight and read it! It didn't disappoint! The story was so gripping and tense and the characters (as always with Maggie) were so wonderful to read about!
Stand alones are always amazingly satisfying if done right and whilst I wouldn't ever complain about seeing these characters or Thisby again, I think The Scorpio Races wrapped up beautifully !

I enjoyed this far more than I thought I would. If you like broody and interesting main characters, murderhorses but in water and a high stakes race, this book is for you.

*review to come*

I’m marking this “read” without a date, because to be honest I skimmed over at least a third of the book. I wanted to know how the book ended, I didn’t want to wallow in island depression. I can see why people love this book, and I really enjoyed parts of it, but I’m also glad I skimmed. (I don’t like scenes with lots of blood, thank you very much.)

reread in audio book form and was THE most enjoyable thing. Nostalgic, atmospheric, inspiring storytelling esp for a teen/young adult book that I loved when I was younger and am returning to now - will defo do more rereading this year by listening it just feels like a guaranteed good time.

It was a good story, well told, with believable characters--it just didn't keep me riveted.
