A "hold your breath" thriller- not sure how I felt about it overall in the end, but I certainly needed to read it to figure out WHAT was going on!

3.5 stars is about right for this. It starts fast. It ends fast. And has a slow build in between. I thought it was building to a completely predictable end….but there was more to it than I thought there would be. Like Seltzer with a twist. It’s about a plural marriage of polygamists from the second wife’s point-of-view and what could happen when jealousy and strife grow between the parties involved.

I can usually identify with the premise of a book or at least with the characters. That is how I become pulled into a story. Needless to say I did not identify in any way with the story of polygamy or with Thursday who willingly married and stayed married to Seth even though she knew he had two other wives. And yet, I was immediately pulled into Thursday’s story and her sudden desire to know something, anything, about Seth’s other two wives. By the middle of the book I was hooked and then unhinged and then totally taken by surprise. The writing is exquisite, the plot is ingenious and the ending….. Well that you will just have to experience yourself.

I was really enjoying this book until about half way though. I felt it became difficult to follow and impossible to separate reality from delusion. The ending was abrupt and didn’t give any resolution.

I did not expect the ending and how the story to change. It was all in her head
