I've never been much of a romance kinda guy. But when my mom picked this book up and told me I should read it, I of course did.

This book surprised me in many ways. I absolutely adore the gay and ftm representation, and I believe Eric is too pure for this world.

This was a really good debut novel, I think you should check it out :)

This story brought joy to my heart like Miles brought joy to his piano competition. Combining elements of finding yourself and identity in competition AND life, this is a story that everyone should add to their "to be read" piles. Not only did we have main characters to root for, but I also felt myself cheering for Miles' friends.

As a piano player, I thought Edward was able to capture playing the piano beautifully on page.

The world needs more stories like this!

This was very cute, wholesome, and heartwarming to read! I really enjoyed the conversations about being queer (specifically being trans and gay) as well as navigating friendships & then the music aspect was amazing as well!

I didn’t like the main conflict of this book though, ngl. It just rubbed me the wrong way, so for that I docked the book a full star. It just isn’t my cup of tea BUT I do like how it was resolved so idk. Overall a really fun read!

I like the humorous inner dialogue. I just find the author funny which is nice. I really like the love interest, Eric, he’s really sweet. He has a nice dynamic with Miles. Some ya contemporary books are too young for me now but this one wasn’t, I enjoyed it. I enjoyed all of the characters, I loved Miles’s friends Rachel and Paige. I loved how supportive they were of Miles. I liked how this was mostly a story about hanging out with your friends, figuring out who you are and finding love. It was sweet and pleasant. It was just such a nice lighthearted read for the most part. It’s kind of hard to find books like this. I liked the passion for piano and art represented in the characters. I really liked all of the side characters too which is kind of rare for me. A lot of the time the side characters aren’t developed enough for me to like them. This book was written so well. I liked how the seasons were described often because it made me feel more immersed in the story. I did wish the ending was longer. I always feel that way when there’s not much time shown of the love interest and the main character interacting after the third act conflict is over. But the ending was good and sweet. I’d really love a sequel.

I liked reading insights from Miles about how it feels to be trans. “I can’t not be me, just because it might make life easier. It won’t be easier. Not for me.”
I wish more people would read books like this, written by trans authors and about what it’s like for them. It’s not easy and people can be mean. Maybe if the judgmental mean people would read books like this they would learn that trans people are literally just trying to live their lives and be who they are and be happy.

I really enjoyed this book. The only thing I didn’t like was when Miles started talking to Shane behind Eric’s back. Eric is so sweet and I wish Miles would just move on from Shane. But then Shane finally gave Miles closure so that was good and Miles had been wanting that. The 3rd act conflict was dragged out a lot, I get why Eric would be upset but that lasted for way too long. Eric should have at least had a conversation with Miles instead of just saying leave me alone and then 4 weeks pass. It shouldn’t have taken miles 4 weeks to apologize for kissing someone else. Ugh. I just never like 3rd act conflicts in romance books. I want the conflict to be resolved quickly always 😂 I also just feel like the book is disrupted when the conflict takes so much time that there’s not much of the book left after it. I just wish we could have seen Eric and Miles together again sooner before the book ended because I loved Eric and he was missing for most of the last 100 pages. But that did give time for Stefania to be more prominent and I loved her too. I can’t wait to read more books from this author! I actually already had The In Between Bookstore on my tbr before this one but then I saw the cover for this and the plot and I just had to read it.
