Maybe if I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more 😭😭

CW: infidelity, chronic Kidney disease, insecurity trope, anxiety, pregnancy/pregnancy loss, suicide, and ER scenarios.

“You know how much I hate that everyone expects me to bounce back just like that”. Every time I picked up this book I heard the chorus of labyrinth spin in the back of my head. “Oh no, I’m falling in love again . Oh, I’m falling in love. I thought the plane was going down, how’d you turn it right around?”

Gosh Miss Abby Jimenez has hit out of the park (again). I didn’t realize this was connected to her previous novel “Part of Your World”. So when I did, my excitement increased.

I really, truly feel I love with this novel. The way both of these characters felt real and raw was incredible. There relationship absolutely adorable. From minor work place rivals to real genuine friends and then slowly falling for each-other while fake dating one another.

I think their friendship in the beginning set up perfectly. Luke how can you not root for this pen-pals. Like how do I date a real man when Jacob Maddox exists? The whole scene with the couch? AH! I just found Brianna to be this multi-layer character. I love how she listens to Jacob, doesn’t treat him any different and supports his needs. Very patient and sunshine to other big slowly losing it on the inside. I totally can’t relate 😅

I loved everyone second of the audiobook. I couldn’t get enough.

I loved this book. I could not put it down. There are difficult topics, but they are handled with grace and care. I could not put it down, and wish more people were like Jacob.

Featuring characters from Part of Your World, I loved this book almost as much! Bri and Jacob were adorable, the sexual frustration spilled over to me, the reader. While having tropes of enemies to lovers, and fake dating, there was also some miscommunication mixed in, which was not my favorite at all and left me so frustrated at times. I literally was audibly telling characters to just talk to each other. That being said Abby Jimenez makes the reader feel ALL the feelings her characters feel. This was a beautiful story, I loved it and can’t wait to read more from her.

THE GOOD: This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year and is now my second favourite Abby Jimenez book after THE HAPPY EVER AFTER PLAYLIST. She is officially an auto-buy author for me. I loved the anxiety representation in this book, and I especially liked that the male main character had anxiety. I feel like in most romance books it's the FMC that has the mental illness. I also loved that the guy falls first as well as the minor 2SLGBTQ+ representation. And the letters?! Omg, they were so sweet! And the author's note at the end. Wow. 🥺

THE BAD: This book was a five-star until chapter 25. I hate the miscommunication trope, and it went on for far too long. 🙄 Also, this book is so dang long, and it doesn't need to be. I also would have liked more smut. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Favorite quote: "We're all a little broken, Briana. We are a mosaic. We're made up of all those we've met and all the things we've been through. There are parts of us that are colorful and dark and jagged and beautiful. And I love every piece of you. Even the ones you wish didn't exist."

Summary: Briana and Jacob are ER doctors who have a rough first meeting. Although introverted & anxious Jacob is immediately taken with her, Briana takes a bit to realize Jacob is a good guy, but once she does, she’s all in. They start fake dating and that ends how all good fake dating ends: with one bed and real love. 😜

Review: I loved many things about this book. Briana and Jacob have an easy chemistry and togetherness and the themes of promising to be harmless to someone really resonated with me. The book also had many truly laugh out loud moments (Jacob’s perfect interjection of catchphrases, iykyk). I appreciated how developed the families of the characters were and the inclusion of all the little daily joys (taking care of plants, bringing a loved one a meal) that make up a life. That was really lovely. And Jacob is donating a kidney to Briana’s brother. That’s so incredible. 🥹

Things that bothered me
: the two on-page sex scenes both take place when one or both characters are extremely upset about something and while it’s referenced that they’re having a bunch of joyous sex in between it seemed kind of gross to me that the explicit scenes were when… these people should not have been having sex. It is explicitly written that Briana is having sex without a condom or any form of birth control and I’m like - two doctors? Seriously? They BOTH know better. And it seems extremely out of character for both of them. Unhealthy practices bug me. Moving on from sex: the two of them competing for a job was a major part of the beginning and then that storyline never goes anywhere and is never mentioned again* and that struck me as very odd.

*I did read an advanced copy so the final version may differ.
