I forgot how my reviews go.
But yes, I give this a flat-out two stars because honestly I'm just confused about where this novel left off. I felt little enjoyment throughout the book, besides the beginning when I found out the crow threw out expletives like a star batter, which was childish I must admit. The rest of the book was spent with me wondering, "Where is this going?" I just can't understand why the author needed 308 pages with a third of them only about a crow and bloodhound prancing around town on a horrific sightseeing trip. Maybe the build-up was necessary for the character's development by the end. Maybe I watched them fight a bunch of things just to meet a new hope at the end for... I don't know, it wasn't the least bit exciting nor do I plan to explore that new hope in the next book. Frankly, this book felt repetitive. On and on the author went about the scenery and the beautiful, magical, magnificent, unexplainable "Aura" and did I mention magical because she said that at least 7x?
But here are some things I did enjoy. The author's plethora of vocabulary that perfectly fit the descriptions of scenery and creative way of describing characters that appeared for only a few pages yet painted an exact picture in your mind was really well done. Had she written a book from a human perspective, perhaps even a fantasy, i think she would've done it well. And though my opinions are less popular, I really liked the book for a at least fifty pages but was let down for the rest of it.

What a trip, this read was. It had all the drama, intense action, death, love, hope and despair you expect in a zombie apocalypse read but it wasn't from the human viewpoint. This was the world as seen by animals, domestic, wild, captured, and other. They have personalities, and voice their beliefs all while trying to figure out this new world without the old humans. There is so much going on, so many things to consider. Animals trapped in homes, cages, zoos, aquariums, domestic meeting wild, territories, and food sources, all asked all answered in unique ways. The personalities, from cute adorable to hideous drool faces, all captured attention, some left me in tears. The twists never stop and nothing happens that is expected, it's a ride. E ticket all the way. Winner !
This would be one fantastic movie.

I didn’t expect to enjoy this book even half as much as I did but I loved every single thing about it!

I was so hopeful about this book (I read so many animal lead adventure books as a kid) but it was all action and no plot. The characters were under developed and the surprise at the end could have happened way earlier to give the story purpose.

This book was so great for so long — I was obsessed, staying up late, etc. But then, she killed the fucKIN DOG WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT omg. I’ll take my bitterness to the grave. I was almost done with the whole book and I just had to stop reading. Nope. No ma’am.
