Ah Heather Webber, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. 1) meaningful relationships between characters 2) emotional but redemptive stories 3) sweet romances 4) charming small town settings 5) quirky secondary characters 6) a touch of magic. Since reading [b:Midnight at the Blackbird Café|41556079|Midnight at the Blackbird Café|Heather Webber|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1551124496l/41556079._SY75_.jpg|64836570], I have been enamored of everything I’ve since read from Heather Webber. When I saw a friend review this eARC she got from NetGalley, I immediately went and requested it too and was so excited to be approved for it.

This story is like a warm hug or like catching fireflies in a mason jar as a child under the watchful eye of your loving parent. It’s the perfect thing to cozy up to under a blanket on the beach, listening to the waves crash and a chilled breeze flutter by. The fictional town of Driftwood comes to life with Webber’s skilled pen. The characters she writes are lovable and real in ways you can relate to, and she treats them and their conflicts gently, making you realize the lessons that the characters learn in your own life.

Another beautifully written story made all the more lovely thanks to that little touch of magic.

Thank you to Tor Publishing for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

This was boring. Ava and Maggie were essentially the same person, so the dual POVs made no difference. I don’t want to rain hate on it because it wasn’t bad, really. It just wasn’t good. Some surprises at the end, at least.

I love Heather Webber's magical realism novels! This story is one of her best, full of angst, heartbreak, grief and also, resilience, endurance, love, and joy. The audiobook version pulled the emotions out of me with the narrators, Hallie Ricardo and Stephanie Willis, ability to convey every emotion as if it was happening right then. This is a wonderful Autumn read.

Ava takes a risk to start over by moving from Ohio to the coast of Alabama. Her decision to move is based on a loss, and a need to learn to be self sufficient, and take a risk. And a letter about a job opportunity she received seemed to be a sign.
We learn about Ava and other member's of the Driftwood community bit-by-bit.
There are lot of members of the community.
There are a few secrets and an odd woman who owns the sewing shop.
Oh, Ava is handy with a sewing needle and is recruit to mend.
There's a trio, maybe one more, of new loves, and rekindled loves.,

This is a book I'd recommend.

What I found odd, but it pulled the characters together: Ava is about 25, and the guy she hung out with was 38 something....we don't really know that until the end.
