A sweet and witchy love story in a coastal village. I love how it's about accepting yourself and being accepted by others as you truly are, in all your quirky glory. Bonus: cute pets!

I adored everything about this story, until the last 10% or so. It’s so sweet and magical and mysterious with lots of quirky, lovable characters. There were a few twists at the end that didn’t work for me, a few lines that were too saccharine, but overall this is completely lovely and cozy.
DNF around 26%, not as magical/cozy as I expected. I actually really liked it at first, the small beach town and air of curious mystery. The romance between Ava and Donovan killed it for me unfortunately, I don't really believe in second chance romances and just couldn't get past it.
This book was decent, but not my favorite. It’s got a cute, whimsical atmosphere, reminiscent of a Hallmark movie, complete with heartwarming moments and an overall everyone-is-happy vibe. However, it was a bit too much for me.
Also, I thought it was really weird that Maggie’s dad chose to lie and let his daughter think he was sick instead of telling her he was in a relationship.

A piece of magical realism, set in a small beachfront town, was a nice diversion from real life. Ava applies for a job in a small town where nobody knows her and she can start over without being seen as fragile and different. When Maggie hires her to help Maggie’s father Dez, Ava and Maggie become good friends, despite the secrets they are both keeping. All of the characters are a bit quirky, but likable. I enjoyed the book and recommend for readers of women’s fiction and magical realism. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

Look. I’m not gonna keep reading this kind of cozy magical realism novel if they keep making me cry like this one did, you hear? People that are nice? And nice to each other? And lift each other up? No, that’s just not me. Give me a good psychopath any day.

But maybe I’ll take a lovely story like this every once in while. Just, you know, like a cleanse.
