Okay, so maybe I will go back and finish this sometime.
I usually like Heather Webber. But honestly? Ninety pages into this one and I found I just didn't really care.
1) It was so similar to her other stuff. Interchangeable characters, towns, ever-so-slight woo woo.
2) But worse, I was increasingly frustrated with how the little magical gifts that her characters had were being framed in such an innocuous, let's-not-offend-the-religious-right kind of way. Either I never noticed that before in her other books (where, okay, maybe she is a little too careful to explain them) or else it's in response to .. what? Hostility from the Hobby Lobby crowd?
Sorry, life is too short. On to the next, hopefully better tale.

4.5 stars. I haven’t yet read a Heather Webber book I didn’t thoroughly enjoy- there’s always so much beauty and magic.
Thank you to Libro.fm and the publisher for the audio ARC of this title.

I read the description and it sounded like it might have the tone of a standard cozy mystery without the dead body. Sadly, I ignored that the cover had "bestselling author" on it. That's usually a sign of death, and it was in this case. The story is so cloyingly simplistic and cardboard I couldn't finish it.
Two lost women in a small time find themselves in a way that isn't vaguely interesting. They're standard. The other characters are standard. The witch is nonsensical. It all comes out to below average. Forget it.

Fun little read. Quirky characters put me in mind of the townspeople of Gilmore Girls.

This was an absolutely pleasant read. If you're feeling emotionally worn out and just want to immerse yourself in a world where people are kind and there's a genuine sense of community, this is a great option.
Had to dock some points because the last few chapters got a little too cheesy and the plot a little too ridiculous for my liking, but I still had a smile on my face the whole time. Reading this book was time well-spent for me.

I loved this book. I wish the world was as full of goodness and magic and kindness as Heather Webber’s books.
