The Resemblance is a police procedural that highlights the dark side of fraternities, especially hazing rituals. It also shows the problems with entitled white men self-interestedly abusing their power. All of which should have had this book firmly in my wheelhouse. And while I didn’t hate it it never fully clicked for me the way I’d hoped and expected. I think that’s because the book and the lead character were trying just a little too hard, the messaging felt too heavy handed, and the book was a little too long, dragging in places . In many ways the ending was unsatisfying and frustrating, but that was totally the point.
