Two stars feels ungenerous, but there wasn't much nuance to this book. Victims are victimized, find ways to overcome, bad guys get their comeuppance, and everyone lives happily ever after. In a very girl-power, hetero-normative way.
This book had some meat to it. It's not an average romance. I really like it.
This book brings to light many of the aspects of life domestic violence touches and harms. Very well written
I probably would have given 3.5 stars. The end of the book got real dramatic and whirly - surprise at the end there, but overall a fine palate cleanser for me.
Caroline Shelby left Oysterville, WA to begin a career in New York in fashion design. When her designs are stolen by her boss and her best friend, Angelique, dies from an overdose, Caroline heads back to Oysterville with two her friend's two children. Caroline's parents are supportive and helpful, but Caroline is floundering, at a loss with what to do next. Caroline is haunted by the images of Angelique's death, knowing she also suffered from domestic violence. So Caroline starts the Oysterville Sewing Circle, which serves as a support group for domestic violence. Caroline is shocked to learn that there are many women in this small town who need support. As the group's friendship grows, so does Caroline's sense of purpose. She begins a small design/sewing venture in the town, which employs some of the women in her support group. And there is a love interest, too! Will Jensen, a childhood friend who married Caroline's best friend, Sierra, is newly divorced and sparks start to fly! A nice story. Good descriptions of place and characters. A good read.
Caroline Shelby returns to her hometown of Oysterville with her tail between her legs and two kids in tow. An entry level designer, her famous boss stole her clothing designs before she could exhibit. As she flounders, her best friend in NYC shows up with her 2 kids and then ODs on her couch. Caroline goes home to rethink her life.
There she finds her old love and renews her passion for design and finds a way to help women like her dead friend (women in an abusive relationship).
Of course some hurdles, but I knew the kids' dad and their mom's abuser was the fashion icon who stole Caroline's designs.
Predicable but enjoyable.

I received an ARC of #oystervillesewingcircle from a win in a Goodreads giveaway in exchange for an honest review. This was my first novel by #susanwiggs that I have ever read, and I look forward to reading more. It drew me in from the very beginning to where I couldn’t put it down until I finished it because I wanted so much to see what happened to Caroline and Will, Addie and Flick, and Caroline’s promising new clothing line that benefited victims of domestic violence. Reading how the story was resolved did not disappoint me as a reader-loved the fluidity of the story, the vivid and relatable characters, and how a prominent issue on the forefront of our society was addressed and resolved. So glad that this novel was written and so glad that I had the opportunity to read and review it. By far, one of the best novels I have read this year. Thank you to #susanwiggs for writing this beautiful and moving novel! Cannot wait to pick up and read more of your novels!! #oystervillesewingcircle #goodreads #giveaway
