Mr. Darcy to Lizzy Bennet, on his falling in love with her (p.376):

"I cannot fix on the hour, or the spot, or the look, or the words, which laid the foundation. It is too long ago. I was in the middle before I knew that I had begun it".

Mr. Knightly is definitely my favorite Austen man but Emma is my least favorite Austen woman.

Emma is quite a nice book with a slow unfolding plot. Occasionally a bit too slow and it does drag on quite a bit. However, I'm very charmed by Austen's writing and Emma's flaws.
