This was on a summer reading list of books that are entertaining. I remember reading this as a child, but it was so long ago, I didn’t really remember the story. What fun! A great cast of characters and lots of plot twists that keep it interesting. While a children’s book at heart, it really is a fun read for adults.

I give this a solid MEH. I had a hard time getting a clear picture of characters, didn't like the flow between scenes and characters for the most part. Ending was all right but I had to talk myself to get it finished. I wanted very much to just set it aside and forget about it.
It's prejudices and stereotypes DO NOT age well.

mysterious slow-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? No
  • Loveable characters? It's complicated

I can see why people enjoy this book so much. It kept me on my toes. I figured out some of the outcomes, but not all of them. My favorite parts were the chapters set in the future, letting us know how all of the characters were.

I read this as a child and remembered it fondly. I'm very happy I read it again. There was very little I remembered of the plot, and I was pleased to find that it wasn't too simple to read as an adult.

Extremely funny read! I chose this book because I am a late bloomer when it comes to reading and I am trying to catch up on those I should have read as a child and my 10-year-old self would have found this so amazing! I love a book that uses hilarious names and characters. If you like puzzles, and I do, this is a great read. I however didn't stop to calculate the murder mystery clues and movement but it could be a great book for a child who loves puzzles and mysteries. It's an older Newbery Winner that was published in 1978 and uses almost every ethnicity known to man and considering its age is phenomenal! I listened to it on audio and the voices of the characters and their quirky personalities were delivered with matching enthusiasm.

I did enjoy reading it for the most part, but I don't really know how to feel about it. It does make me want to read another mystery though. It's kind of crazy that these parents were letting these kids hang out with adults, basically strangers, alone all the time.
It feels very 1970s after school special diversity. Like yes there are people of color in the book, but they're talked about very weird. Especially Mr Hoo's wife, whose name I don't think we ever learn. Like what was the point of her character?

This is a reread. Loved this book as a kid. After I finished Ready Player One, I thought of this book and had to reread it.

This was one of my favorites when i was younger so i wanted to re-read it. It’s a little dated but overall still a fascinating whodunit.
