4.8* rounded up.

i really, really enjoyed this. i’ve been feeling unwell recently, but reading this has been really fun, and heartwarming, and i appreciated the mood-lift it gave me. it’s basically all you can ask for in a book.

it’s very sweet and cozy, and a perfect choice for someone who wants a fast-read, with a great storyline.

i loved that there was a lot of focus on family, and that much of this was character-driven. the characters were really lovable and cute, and i loved the communication between the couple.

i’m definitely going to be picking up lucy parker’s other books because her writing is just incredible. very descriptive and beautiful.

I adore Lucy Parker's writing and characters so much! This was loosely based on the Great British Bake Off where Sylvie, a former contestant who butted heads with the grumpy judge, Dominic, comes back as a judge. Sylvie specializes in fantastical and delicious designs (a blown sugar glass dragon!), while Dominic bakes classic styles that run from white to cream-colored. They're the perfect grumpy/sunshine couple!

Sweet (pun intended) enemies to lovers story in a British Baking Show + Royal Wedding world.

The story was entertaining. Both main characters are competent and professionally skilled! Both are good at communication! Both have strong character traits and act with agency! I’m not a fan of the contemporary romance trend of main characters having ALL of the trauma. This story balances the baggage (dead parents, neglectful childhood) with the banter.

This might be my favorite contemporary romance?!?

For people who love HEAs in a classically predictable Disney way, enemies-to-lovers, butterfly-in-the-stomach love stories, quick falls into deep love, simplicity. Also must like GBBO, glitter & unicorns, PDAs, RomComs, and British Royalty stories and intrigue.

Lucy Parker writes by focusing on the emotion behind a fast-blooming romance. I prefer a bit more adventure, mischief, and absurdism, but this is definitely a niche people could use right now. This series sets up single characters for future romances, which, I assume, will make for an adorable series where HEAs are thrown around like confetti.

i expected the gbbo references to be cringey but it was actually really cute! there's some surprising depth as well but overall it's a fun one.
