I wanted to like this given the comparisons to All The Ugly And Wonderful Things, but the writing just wasn't good and it made it impossible to enjoy the story.

It was fine. Sasha and Monti's relationship was the saving grace of this book. It would have been much more compelling if Harrison had disposed of the serial killer plot line and chose to develop their relationship even further. Serial killer mysteries are so tired and this one was particularly dull. It felt like an underdeveloped plot device to make Monti's story more tragic and to have a surprise twist at the end. The author noted in the beginning that she attempted to write respectfully about the sensitive topics in the book, but it felt as though she was too afraid of doing it wrong that she failed to write anything of substance.
