I'm pretty sure this series will stray more into the paranormal, rather an urban fantasy territory, but I liked it. The premise was nice and the plot was kept simple and introductory to the trilogy.
At times the prose was a bit rough and, I hate to say, slightly amateurish, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book. I like her turn of phrase and will definitely explore more of her books.

Okay, so, I last dove into Ash back in 2017. Yikes. Then I ended up ghosting the shit out of this trilogy. Years later I finally convinced myself to dive back into this just so I can finish the series. This year. Maybe.
Now there's no surprise that I basically forgot everything that happened in the first book. Seriously, none whatsoever. It was bound to happen since it has been like - what - 4ish year? Eh, details.
In it, you will meet Charlie. She is the first female ash which is a very big deal. Yet, that's not what she really is. She is definitely a huge mystery and lots of people are paying big money to get ahold of her. Luckily, she has a little found ash family that is going to do everything in their power to save and protect her.
As of right now, I really enjoyed her and Ryder together. Even though I've only gotten small little specs of romance. I definitely want way more than that and I'm very hopeful that I will throughout the next two books. Since I never read them, I have no idea if that will actually happen or not.
I'm also not a fan of Tessa, her best friend, becoming a feeder but if the guy she is hanging out with truly cares for her then I can only hope for the best. Also, there's Jayden - who I absolutely love! I seriously want so much more for them all and I'm very excited to dive into the sequel.
In the end, I guess I'm diving into the next one head first. Bring it on!

I loved the imagination that has gone into this.... I would say it is YA rather than NA though, the MC is older than 18 but at times it seems a bit YA in way its written.
Our main character hates Ash's (born half vampires) its not revealed as to why in this book.... She soon overcomes her hate as she finds she is the first female Ash in known existence. To stop a war between vamps and humans the vamps only keep a select few the rest are slaughtered in the culling.
Charlie although faced with an impending death and with no martial training seems unconcerned and only moans about the training given and jokes around about it, while eye screwing her trainer. (This part i felt the YA aspect) as it was a teenage way of coping not an adults.
The rest of the book was a real good read and has wet my appetite enough at some point to get to the second.

Omg why did this have to finish so quickly! Jaymin Eve hats down to your writing hot scenes. The chemistry electrifies off the page. Please never stop writing as I want to keep enjoying everything you write until my ripe old age.

Nope nope nope, just couldn't do it... I reeeeally tried to like this book, but the concept that the heroine is literally one of a kind and still forced to go through with the culling is just INCREDIBLY stupid. If you ONLY have white diamonds in the world, SO many that you have to reject some based on its quality, but all of a sudden discover ONE black diamond, the first one in recorded history; do you REALLY judge the black one like the common white ones or do you try to preserve it with everything you've got? The premise of this book is just too unbelievable. Also, the heroine came off as incredibly annoying in the beginning, I hope that got remedied later on.

Even if this was a bit tropey and cliche I read through it so fast. Its just so entertaining.
