Travelogue, pieces of memoir, non-fiction study of happiness in 33 cultures/countries, clever illustrations, "how tos" at the end of each short chapter--Helen Russell (Brit) follows up her "Year of Living Danishly" with a broad look at what makes life worth living and what we might learn from each other. Fun book to read or skim in a pandemic when traveling and happiness need to happen within one's own home/life.

What a fun and informative book. I highly recommend listening to the audiobook. The author/narrator is British and her personality and humor shines through. The countries took almost exactly the same time as my car trips so it was a very easy read. I’m going to investigate her other books.

I loved the Year of Living Danishly and Leap Year, and really enjoyed this too. As Helen mentioned in the intro, no country is perfect and there’s probably some romanticising of some of the cultural beliefs, phrases and ways, but it allowed me to reflect on some of the concepts and see how I can bring some of these own elements into my own life. And it’s good to see some common themes - connection with others, the joy of eating, reading, cosy living and crafting.

A recommended read for all! Optimism is not a luxury—it’s essential. Without hope, we risk giving up in the face of challenges. While we acknowledge the bad, we must focus on how to improve it.
Around the world, people find happiness in all circumstances, and by learning from them, we can discover more ways to be happy and support one another. Empathy is key, and understanding what matters to others globally helps us all.
