This book is so pure. Truly a love letter to his mother and a memoir filled with fights were fighting. Absolute must read for everyone.
Dustin Lance Black shows us that everything you believe in is worth fighting for. Promises have a greater meaning than we understand, and promises are a sacred thing.

This book was really lovely. It is heartbreakingly sad, but a wonderful tribute from Lance Black to his mother. A solid 50-60% of the book covers his grandmother and his mom, and the focus of the book is not really at all Lance Black himself, which I was not expecting (but is still good).
A very touching read, and a poignant reminder that everyone's story is worth telling.

Oh my goodness, I think this is my best book of the year so far! A beautiful, poignant autobiography that tells the story not just of Black but of his incredible mother. The love and admiration for his mother pours out of every page and I was in tears on public transport at multiple points from the sheer heart and truth I was reading. The book has a powerful, important and timely message, and I flew through it - highly, highly recommended!
