When I tell you I loved loved loved this book….it so reminded me of reading the Perks of Being a Wallflower when I was in high school and how that truly gripped me. There aren’t very many classics told from a females perspective, raw and no filter. Overall easy to read and relate to the character if you’re a woman and have ever struggled with mental health and finding yourself. With all that being said, I was not prepared for the INSANELY racist, fatphobic, and ableist moments. Most of them truly came out of nowhere and almost ruined this book for me. I would’ve given 5 stars if not for these unnecessary and gross additions. Please proceed with caution if you choose to read this book.

I have issues with Plath but this book wrecked me. A classic for a reason.

Wonderful but gotta doc her for the racism. Was it consistent with the time? Yeah. Are there other things we could compare to the color yellow….. yeah.

I've read this in two days and while I like the first half more than the second half, it's overall just a very good book. Heartbreaking to think about Sylvia really feeling this way, and heartbreaking that this was her only novel. I think the reason why this is such a classic and simply timeless is because to some extent very relatable for a lot of people. I'm also very surprised how well it handles the topic of mental illness.
